| The Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz League operates on Wednesday evenings in Winter and Spring. The 1999~2000 season kicked-off last November and came to a climax on 8 March 2000. On 26 April the 31st annual "Champion of Champions" knock-out competition was settled. The Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz League comprises 38 teams grouped into six conferences. Five of these are centred on Bradford & Wakefield in West Yorkshire (drawing from a catchment area that also includes Castleford, Ossett & South Leeds). The other conference comprises eight teams from the Sheffield area. Matches feature a head to head contest between two teams of four. There are seven 'team' and two 'individual' rounds in each match. All but one of the rounds have eight questions (four to each side). After the main contest there is an eight question 'beer round'. Each week we mail out questions, scoresheets, the previous week's results and league tables to home teams in good time for Wednesday night fixtures. These all arrive sealed in special custom made "tamper evident" security pouches. And, as an added sweetner for host licensees, we also enclose a special 20 Question Pub Quiz for them to use as they see fit - usually to amuse their "regulars" on another evening. Two teams playing in one of the West Yorkshire Conferences also participate in The Five Towns Quiz League on Monday nights (a league mainly based on Castleford & Pontefract). We supply the Five Towns League with questions, and we like to think the readiness of people to take part in TWO leagues we set questions for is testament to the fact we do a good job!
