Since the Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz League claims descent from the former Tetley's League, the knock-out champions can likewise cite a lineage going back 30 years to when the "Beeley Wood" of Sheffield became Yorkshire's first ever "Champion of Champions". In 1999 the competition was won by the team from the Traveller's Rest of Elland. Since then the team moved to a pub in Halifax, and as the Branch Road Inn they retained the trophy in 2000. In winning the final of the competition on 26th April they defeated the New Inn of Walton (Wakefield) by 83 points to 48. Follow this link to re-live the event, & see the questions.
