Further down the page you'll find a link to the questions used in the final
of this year's 'Champion of Champions' knock-out competition.
The 1999 'Champion of
Champions' match
was staged on 28 April. The venue was "The Three Houses"
pub on Barnsley Road, Wakefield. Some 80 or so spectators came, the
evening also being the occasion for the presentation of league trophies
and certificates.
An incredibly close-fought contest was eventually won by The Traveller's
Rest of Elland, who beat the White Lion of Armley in Leeds by the
narrowest of all possible margins.
The standard was extremely high. Some 129 points were scored out
of a possible maximum of 164 (a 79% score rate). The two finalists did remarkably
well with some very tough questions indeed. Either side would have been
very worthy champions!
