From time to time the Wise Old Owls organise special
events. These might be to supplement activities of the Wise Old
Owls Yorkshire Quiz League (such as knockout finals nights) or to
promote links between different leagues. Thus far we can confirm the
dates of two such events (details regarding the knockout finals will be
announced in February 2001).
These are ...

November 2000 - Roses Match Play Event
The inaugural 'Roses Matchplay' quiz tournament will take place
on 15th December 2000. Three teams from West of the Pennines will
travel to Altofts in West Yorkshire to play against three teams
representing the White Rose.
Representing Yorkshire will be the Branch Road Inn of Greetland
(Halifax), the Cellar Bar from Batley and the Lee Brigg Hotel
of Altofts (Wakefield). The 'Red Rose Collective' will comprise a
team each from the Bolton, Chester & Littleborough Leagues.
Unfortunately there is only limited space for spectators at the venue -
the Horse & Jockey, Altofts - so anyone hoping to attend should
first contact the Wise Old Owls to
secure an invite.

January 2001 - Steve Crew Memorial Event
This is an annual event first instituted in 2000. It affords an
opportunity for the league to gather together and compete in a friendly
'table quiz'. Teams selected for their 'fair play' also get to
compete for a special trophy in honour of Steve Crew, one of the founders
of the Wise Old Owls, who sadly died in July 1999.
At the end of December teams in the league will be invited to nominate
likely candidates to contest the Steve Crew Memorial Trophy - the current
holders being the Cellar Bar of Batley.
Details of the 2001 event (to be held on 3rd January) will be posted
here in due course.

highly successful inaugural event and download the questions used on the
