Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz League
Final of the 31st Annual Champion of Champions Contest

The
final of this year’s Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz
League annual Champion of Champions
knock-out contest was won by the Branch
Road Inn of Greetland (Halifax). They
defeated the New Inn of Walton (S.
Wakefield). Full details, as well

The
final was played at the Lee Brigg Working Men’s Club, Altofts on Wednesday 26th
April in front of about a hundred spectators.
The winners add their names to an illustrious list of past champions that
stretches back to 1969 when the Beeley
Wood of Sheffield won the inaugural competition (for the full list see ‘https://members.tripod.com/wiseoldowls/Champion_of_Champions)/’.
The
same night the Lord Nelson of Crigglestone defeated Cleckheaton’s Old
Pack Horse ‘B’ in the ‘Plate Final’.
The occasion also saw the Wise Old
Owls presenting trophies and certificates to the winners of its six
Yorkshire leagues. These were, Cellar Bar of Batley, British
Queen of Bradford, Wentworth Arms of
Middlestown, New Inn of Walton, Sportsman
of Sheffield and the Clife Tree of
Wakefield.
