Supplementary
information: The
competition has been held each year since 1969 (except 1976) when the winners
were the Beeley Wood of Sheffield.
In former years it was a knock-out contested solely by winners of local
leagues within the Tetley’s Quiz League.
When the League was
discontinued in 1996 the Wise Old Owls
kept up the tradition. Last year,
in April 1999, the tournament winners were the Traveller’s Rest from Elland (that team transferred en
bloc to the Branch Road Inn in the summer; accordingly, the members of the ‘Branch’s’
team are effectively looking to win a second successive title this year). The
venue for this year’s final is the Lee Brigg W.M.C., St. Mary’s Rd, Altofts,
Normanton. As well as the Champion
of Champions match there will also be the final of the inaugural Wise
Old Owls Yorkshire Plate final. This
competition, also a knock-out, is being contested by those teams who lost-out in
the early stages of the Champion of
Champions tournament. Format for the finals evening on 26th April is as follows ... 19.30 Guests arrive (table quizzes &tc. - prizes for
winners)
