Like all good web pages we furnish you here with a number of links to follow. But remember, before you go trolling-off, do bookmark this site won't you!!!!!! The foremost, best link we can offer you is to Quizzing.co.uk The remaining links are organized into four groups*; viz:-
* Webmasters, if you think your site or web ring falls into one or more of the above categories, feel free to drop us a line. Likewise, please feel free to add a link to these pages if you think your visitors will appreciate them. So, here are the links ....
The UK Game Show Page. This site contains a wealth of information on British TV game shows, their history, hosts, highs & lows. This is a very comprehensive site indeed and contains a detailed list of contact addresses for companies who regularly make game shows and who may be on the look-out for prospective contestants. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire yes, this is the UK home of the monster of all quiz shows (monster prizes, monster audiences and, according to William G. Stewart of "15 to 1" fame, the monster which will eat itself*). There's rather a lot of shockwave flash you have to allow time to load up but once it does there's some interesting trivia about the show. Less clever is the US
home of WWTBAM. There's no shockwave flash to marvel at but
there is info on John Carpenter - the US taxman who, in November 1999, became
the first person to win a million on the show (and the three others who've done it
since!!!!). However, with Millionaire now on its 9th UK series & screened round the globe, one hesitates to say "Chris Tarrant your days are numbered". Besides, after collecting £32k on the show I could hardly criticize it myself! www.triv.net - While there's no real dosh to win you could visit Andrew Davie's "Not The Who Want's To Be A MIllionaire" page. Andrew, from Stopckport, has devised a Java applet that mimics the show's format. The Fastest Fingers - Inspired by my appearance on the show, and in an effort to harness the sort of camaraderie enjoyed by the Mastermind Club, I have created this site devoted to people who have been in the Millionaire's Chair. I earnestly hope this site will grow and grow and, sponsored by Wise Old Owls, I have booked a 100MB of web space for the purpose! 15 to 1: unofficial 'fan' site devoted to the hit quiz show. Here you will find details of many of the individuals who have shone on this programme. The People Versus a TV show which appeared on our prime-time screens with a bang and now whimpers in the late afternoon. Here you can set questions on-line and download an application form should you want to become a contestant. In the show's early, 'big money' days I managed to get a question asked - though sadly the punter got it right (grrrrr!). BBC Online - Casting Call a page carrying details of up and coming TV & radio shows for which participants are required. Always worth a visit - you never know! BBC Online - A Question of Sport the web home of one of TV's most popular quiz panel shows. Madrid Pub Quiz Another "pub" (do they have Pub's in Spain?) which offers some of its questions on the web. Its gratifying to see that the British fad for pub quizzes has traveled abroad. Sadly many fellow Europeans think our pubs are nothing more than venues for "binge drinking" (yes I know they are but at least we're well edjzhukhated drunks!). The Pear Tree. The site is maintained by a regular who runs a quiz in his local public house in Hatfield, Glossop (League of Gentlemen territory, so no doubt its a local quiz for local people! ). There are loads of questions to download, most of which have a strong topical flavour - i.e. topical when the quiz was composed! You will find a lot of nuggets here, as well as some mistakes (hey, who doesn't make mistakes?).
BBC News Online one of the world's premier information sites, whether you are looking for the low-down on War, Politics, Entertainment or Sports etc. CNN you can sign up for a number of daily news headline briefings here. This is Reuters one of the world's oldest and most important sources of news and information on the world at large. The British Press Association News Centre you can sign up for a daily news headline briefing here. Its been re-packaged now as Ananova.com and, if you want our opinion, its not as good as it was! Why watch Ananova when you can see the real news at BBC.co.uk ? The Guardian a splendid source for news and culture Online Mirror Newspaper a British Tabloid newspaper. A source for News, Entertainment, Sports and, oh yes, gossip, lots of gossip! The Central Office of Information British Government Site English Heritage learn about all our historic buildings. Office for National Statistics British Government Site Office of Fair Trading British Government Site CIA Factbook here you will find the contents of the manual which the CIA issues to its operatives to educate them about this lovely world of ours. Facts, statistics, histories, politics and opinions, they're all here. World Heritage List some of the world's cultural jewels. The Yorkshire Information Centre a variety of stuff about Britain's biggest county. Library of Congress Home Page the world's largest, and greatest, library.
The
Marshal Vauban Website created by Chris Jones it concerns one of
the all time greats in the history of warfare. Sadly it has been neglected
since he got busy writing questions for us. However, its worth looking at,
if only to demonstrate we do have lives outside of quizzes. Please take
note!
The Leonard Cohen Files a marvelous site (maintained by a chap from Finland) devoted to one of the most enduring figures in music and literature. Mr. Cohen is one of Canada's leading singer-songwriters as well as being a highly regarded novelist & poet. The web site features numerous contributions by the great man himself. Akira Kurosawa Database one of a number of web sites devoted to the late great director. Kurosawa, it has to be said, made of some of the finest films ever to grace the screen. Pictured left is a detail from the poster for the film 'Ran' (Japanese for "Chaos"), its storyline being based on Shakespeare's "King Lear". Kurosawa's other great films include 'Throne of Blood' (a Samurai version of
'Macbeth'), 'Seven Samurai' & 'Yojimbo' (the
inspiration, respectively, for the westerns 'The Magnificent 7' and 'A
Fistfull of Dollars'), 'The Hidden Fortress' (which heavily
influenced 'Star Wars'), 'Roshomon', 'Dirsu Uzala', 'Tora!
Tora! Tora!' and 'Kagemusha'. Google very much our preferred search engine.
