1000 to One Rules                                                       

 

1.   The BBC is planning to record and broadcast a series of programmes entitled “1000 to One” (“the programmes”) as part of the Comic Relief Campaign 2001.  Provisional recording dates are Saturday 20th January, Sunday 21st January, Sat 3rd February, Sunday 4th February, Saturday 10th February and Sunday 11th February.  The programmes will involve contestants competing for a single grand prize package consisting of approximately 1000 prizes.  The prizes are non transferable and no cash alternative to the prizes will be offered. Before commencing the entry procedure applicants must ensure that they will be available to take part in the programmes.  All entrants to 1000 to One must read and comply with the following rules:

 

2.   The competition is open to UK residents aged 18 or over on 20th January 2001 with the following exceptions:

a)   employees of the BBC, employees, trustees and volunteers of Comic Relief and anyone    

connected with the competition.

b)  Anyone with a criminal conviction, save for a minor motoring offence, which has NOT been

spent in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

 

The BBC reserves the right to demand proof of eligibility.

 

3.  Contestants who have been selected to take part in one of the programmes will be notified by telephone as soon as possible prior to the recording date.  Programme contestants will have to arrive at The Fountain Studios, Empire Way, Wembley, London by an agreed time on the agreed recording date.  There will be an area where contestants will be able to purchase light refreshments or alternatively they will be able to consume their own refreshments.  All beverages consumed must be non-alcoholic.  Reasonable travelling and any other previously agreed necessary expenses will be reimbursed.  No fee will be paid for participation in the programme.  The BBC will be entitled to disqualify any entrant who fails to arrive by the stipulated time or who, in the BBC’s opinion, is unfit to participate in the programme or who has breached the rules.  That entrant’s place will be taken by one of the reserve contestants.  If the winner of any of the five programmes is found to be ineligible by reason of a criminal conviction, save for a minor motoring offence, which has not been spent in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 or by reason of illness then the runner up of each particular show will take their place.

 

4.  Each of the programme contestants will be required to sign an agreement including their consent to take part in the recording and broadcast and all other exploitation in any media.  Contestants must also agree to take part in any competition publicity and not to divulge any information concerning the recording, the programme or the competition to any third party without the BBC’s consent.

 

5.  200 contestants will take part in each of the five programmes and each programme will have one winner.  The winners of each of the first four programmes will join the winner of the fifth programme and take part in a knock out competition from which the final winner will be selected.  All contestants will be required to take part in a series of rounds based on general knowledge questions.  In one round they will be placed in teams where the majority answer will be counted as their answer.

 

6.  There is only one grand prize for which there is no cash alternative.

 

7.  The BBC reserves the right to refuse to award the prize in the event of fraud, dishonesty or any breach of the rules.  The BBC’s decision on the running of the competition and the selection procedures is final and no correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.  In the event of any fault, misunderstanding or dispute concerning any part of the competition the BBC’s decision shall be final.

 

8.  Whilst every reasonable effort will be made to contact all selected entrants where relevant the BBC is unable to guarantee such contact and reserves the right to proceed with the next entitled entrant under the rules.

 

9.  The BBC has no obligation to broadcast or record any or all of the proposed programmes.  If the operation of the competition is prevented by reason beyond the BBC’s control, part or all of the competition may be cancelled or varied.
