Since the Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz League can claim descent from the former Tetley's League, the knock-out champions can likewise cite a lineage going back 31 years to when the "Beeley Wood"  of Sheffield became Yorkshire's first ever 'Champion of Champions'. 

In former times the 'Champion of Champions' competition was open only to divisional winners.  Now it is open to all who take part in the Wise Old Owls Yorkshire Quiz League.  Indeed, in actual fact any pub team in Yorkshire can enter if they so wish!

The 1999 'Champion of Champions' were the Traveller's Rest  of Elland.  Since their victory the team moved to another home in Halifax, and as the Branch Road Inn, (Greetland)  they went on to retain the trophy in April 2000.

In winning the final of the competition on 26th April the Branch Road Inn defeated the New Inn of Walton (Wakefield) by 83 points to 48. Follow this link to re-live the event & see the questions.
